Mobile Homecoming Trust Living Library & Archive

We created Mobile Homecoming Trust to sustain the lives and legacies of Mobile Homecoming elders and Black Feminist elders, their legacy bearers and care givers. To that end the trust will:

1) steward the archive and library into perpetuity (FOREVA!);
2) develop an all ages/intergenerational assisted and interdependent living community; and
3) facilitate programs and events that spread the good news of Mobile Homecoming and Black Feminism.

Mobile Homecoming / Trust Updates

We have abundant resources amongst us:

In 2019

1. Tides awarded Mobile Homecoming $10k in 2019 allowing us to gather the “congregation” for what would turn out to be foundational for the work we were able to do in 2020 during quarantine.

2. Community and family pledged a total of $100k for a loveland purchase but were outbid.
   

In 2020

1. MHT shared one of our virtual retreat offerings (Black Feminist Breathing) and it made enough from individual and institutions who participated to fund our virtual programming for the year and purchase our own livestream studio equipment.

2. MHT generated resources from other online courses and virtual gatherings in 2020 that allowed us to sustain weekly Sunday Services.
   

In 2021

1. Solidaire Network awarded MH a grant allowing us to have access to space, support and more sustainable work practices.

2. Solidaire has agreed to partner with us next year to continue our raise. Goal $2million

3. Our Durham partners Helena Cragg and Sylvia Williams secured a home space for MH/T to incubate and activate our shared and distinct visions on 11 acres (with a 4bdrm house) in Durham.

In 2022 #GOALS

1. Sangodare intends to work more sustainably and be paid a salary or the equivalent by MH/T (for the first time) for the multiple jobs they do directing and running the administrative, financial, media, technology +++ aspects of Mobile Homecoming and Mobile Homecoming Trust full time.
   

2. MHT intends to gather the brilliant brain trust, align and journey toward rest, retreat and sustainable living (home & work).
   

3. MHT intends to contract 3 people to join the leadership and stewardship team to make these areas that we are all ready up and running be more accessible and sustainable. They will help us:
   
   —— a) run the retreat and wellness center (online and in-person) with stupendous hospitality and specificity,
   
   —— b) develop our art and educational spaces including everything from the library & archive, sustainable home building (our modular retreat center and beyond), trade school and metal smithing workshop all the way to Queer BIPOC led drum & dance legacy building, school of spiritual science, rights of passage programming, Black Feminist Film School AND Loveship practice (for romantic partnership);

   
   AND of course
   
   —— c) activate the Living Library - assisted and interdependent living community for our elders, their legacy bearers and care givers.

Heart 2 Heart: a transitional housing program to support, nurture, and develop BIPOC Transgender individuals struggling to secure and maintain safe and affordable housing and employment opportunities.

Golden Girlz Intentional Community: a longer term strategy to secure and develop a site for a multi-generational, multi-racial, black feminist intentional community centered on the mutual support of our BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community members.
